Chemical Peel Care
PRE CARE INSTRUCTIONS FOR CHEMICAL PEELS
Before undergoing a chemical peel, patients are required to prepare the skin by cleansing twice a day. They should also discontinue using alpha hydroxy acid products such as glycolic acid, as well as topical acne medications like Retin-A. Patients that are susceptible to cold sores are pre-treated with an antiviral medication, 1 day before the procedure, to prevent the recurrence of cold sores as they heal.
HOW MUCH DISCOMFORT CAN I EXPECT?
You can expect minor discomfort after the procedure, but this can be easily managed with medication.
HOW LONG WILL THE REDNESS LAST?
The redness associated with chemical peels usually disappears within a few days, except in the case of a deep peel like a NuPeel®.
WHAT ABOUT POST OP CARE?
We recommend that you keep all areas covered with emu oil or vaseline, to prevent the skin from drying. Also, be sure to use sunscreen, and avoid direct sunlight for the first week after surgery.
