Moles and Skin Tags
Skin lesions such as moles and skin tags that turn up on the skin can be very annoying, but the good news is, they are usually quite harmless. Moles and skin tags appear on different parts of the skin, and are often removed for cosmetic purposes. However, if you are contemplating getting treatment for these skin conditions, it is important to enlist the services of a qualified professional dermatologist or physician.
Moles
Moles are flat or raised skin growths that occur on the skin, and are usually round or oval shaped. They often appear by the age of 20, and may be due to genetics or sun exposure. Moles are also known as melanocytic nevus, and are generally benign. However, moles that are irregular in shape may develop into a type of skin cancer known as melanoma. Therefore you should always check out any moles that have changed shape or size.
There are several methods that can be used to remove moles, but the method chosen often depends on the size. Smaller, raised moles are often removed with electrocauterization. Laser therapy is usually recommended for the removal of larger moles, in particular, the Fraxel laser is very effective.
Skin Tags
A skin tag is a benignskin growth that is also known as an acrochordon. It is a soft piece of hanging skin. Skin tags can show up just about anywhere on the body, but are usually found in areas where skin rubs against skin causing friction. This includes the underarms, groin, under breasts, eyelids, and neck area.
There are usually no symptoms associated with skin tags, they simply don’t look very attractive, and many people feel self-conscious having them around. Skin tags can be snipped off with a scissors or scalpel, and they can also be treated with electrocauterization. The latter solution will ensure that they do not reoccur.
